Showtime [A Tale of Two Zoos]
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015
This post is coming a tiny bit late for no reason other than my eternal struggle to find reliable free wifi. Yesterday was our first real show day, and there was A LOT of energy in the room (which says a lot, because it’s a curling rink, which is a HUGE room). We learned we had a big petting zoo set up directly across from us, filled with alpacas, bunnies, pigs, and an adorable baby emu [all animals that our animals would find quite tasty]. Luckily everyone stayed on their own side. The first show was successful, though the audience was small and my microphone died halfway through (there are no worse hecklers to talk over than bleating goats and sheep). The second show however was exponentially better, with a large crowd, and a nearly perfect performance. I hope today goes just as well, if not better! [its also beautiful and sunny here in Manitoba]!

Back In Time [The Wild West]
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015
Do you ever have those days where they are so busy, long, and you sleep so erratically it’s difficult to recount them..? That’s basically how this past day has been. We had to drive until about 5am before finally reaching Brandon, as we encountered a fair share of truck complications, misdirections, and flat-out slow driving due to the heavy cargo… It was an equally bizarre drive into Manitoba as there was frequent sheets of purple lightning filling the sky, and heavy fog which crept into the early morning. Driving along the lakes and plains in the mist was hauntingly beautiful (although i was also sleep deprived and didn’t even know where I was)…Upon arrival at the fair-grounds (back in time an hour from EST) I was able to snatch 5 hours of sleep before having to get to work, and the day today was spent caring for the animals, and setting up for the shows tomorrow.. Did I mention I’m hosting and haven’t come up with a script yet..? Let’s see how it goes!

True North [Cold Morning]
Monday, June 1st, 2015
It feels ironic as I write the word “June”, because as I woke up this morning near Thunder Bay, it was FREEZING! After another delicious gas station breakfast, we fed and watered the royalty.. Err.. Animals, and I took Boots, the house cat, on a walk [you have to start somewhere]! We then hit the road driving through even more of Ontario (which is just a ridiculously wide province). As the day went on the sun came out and luckily the temperature went up.. However as I sit now, there are mosquitoes everywhere, so maybe the cold was better…We are planning on crossing into Manitoba tonight, arriving in Brandon at 2am…! The only other note for today, our lion cub is relaxing like a princess… She doesn’t have a name yet, but i’m thinking “sleeping beauty”.. [It sounds better than “lazy kitty”, anyway..].

Good-Morning, Temiskaming Shores! [A Shore Thing]
Sunday, May 31, 2015 After a late departure yesterday, I fell asleep VERY quickly in the truck last night… This morning I awoke to a chill in the air, and figured the A/C in the truck had been on all night… However, upon opening the door, it was really that cold (4 degrees Celsius). Upon some investigation I determined that I was in Temiskaming Shores, a tiny little place in the middle of Ontario. This morning all the animals (including our adorable lion cub) were happy and well rested, the humans too (for the most part) and after a delicious truck stop breakfast (see photo below), I am raring and ready to go! More to come later, I’m sure. Logan

The Adventure Begins
Saturday, May 30th, 2015
Today, I am hopping in a truck with tigers, lions, wolves, baboons, a camel, a bison, and more Animals. I was given a job this summer to travel over 7000 kilometres across Canada with the Bowmanville Zoo, hosting animal shows at different fairs from Saskatoon to Red Deer and seemingly every other city in the middle of the middle of nowhere. I decided since the show is being created by me, I have the rare chance to share an ecological message to hundreds of people across the country, to help protect endangered animals in the wild! Since this is a sizeable crusade, I thought it best to keep a blog on our experiences. Our first stop is Brandon, Manitoba, a city who’s “trip advisor” page is about as barren as the prairies I’ll likely be driving to on the way there!
Hopefully I can add some photos and such of the animals themselves soon!
