Today was exciting for two reasons:
International Tiger Day!
HAIRCUTS!
For those of you playing at home, I haven’t had my haircut since Moose Jaw.. I was in dire need…
BEFORE.AFTER.
Now onto the furry critter you came to see… Uno, the Siberian Tiger! Uno wearing a special flower crown that Maddy made him!
Sadly, in the wild, Tigers like Uno as well as their cousins, the Bengal Tiger, are listed as an endangered species. A recent report claims that there are less than 3,200 left in the wild.
Uno feeling VERY pretty. One of the greatest threats to tigers in the wild, as well as animals like Asian Elephants and Orangutans, is the destruction of their rainforest homes by humans. The main driving factor in this destruction? PALM OIL. It is found in a ridiculous amount of everyday products from peanut butter to shampoo, and we are buying it like crazy, not realizing the impact it’s having on southeastern Asian rainforests.
Limba, the Asian Elephant. As a beloved member of the Bowmanville Zoo for MANY years, she passed away leaving a long past of conservation and raising awareness for her species in the wild.
All we need to do to stop this is to stop buying palm oil products, because as soon as the demand drops, the devastation will fade out.
Uno is counting on all of us to save tigers! We have it in us to change the world for the better. Let’s make it so our grandchildren still are able to celebrate international tiger day!🐅
